PERFORMANCES

PERFORMANCES

Performance is a mode of interpreting a narrative.  In essence, when I photograph a performance, I reinterpret an interpretation.   Documenting a performance creates an interesting dynamic  between me, the spectators, and the spectacle.

Do you like what you see?

But perhaps the question, really, should be:  What do you see?   Are you seeing the performance through my photos?  Or are the collections of photos in themselves a distinct performance on their own?  When I freeze movements and mute the sound, how does that impact the experience of the performance?  Do you provide your own soundtrack in your mind?  And because I chose black and white as my medium, do you colorize it in your imagination?
