FILIPINO ACTIVISM IN NEW YORK

(2009 TO 2013)

Home away from home, socially-conscious Filipinos in New York actively pursue human rights issues that impact the lives of their fellowmen both in the Philippines and the United States.  They take to the streets and join protests to make sure that their collective voices do not go unheard on issues ranging from human trafficking to labor inequality to racial and gender discrimination.   While they have the proclivity to join forces as members of their own ethnic community, they also make an effort to collaborate with other groups.  Most notably, they have been working side by side with Hispanic, Latino, and Asian communities.
